On this week’s podcast, we had the pleasure of speaking with Finola Colgan, Development Officer with Mental Health Ireland.
Mental Health Ireland run a dedicated service for Irish farmers named Farming Resilience, and Finola plays a key role in the development of mental health services for farmers. Farming Resilience has a focus on four main themes:
1. Mental Health Stress Management and Mindfulness
2. The Five Ways to Wellbeing
3. Supporting Ourselves, Supporting Others
4. Mental Health and Physical Health
In this podcast hosted by our Farm Safely CEO Máirtín Breathnach, Finola discusses the importance of mental health for farmers across the country.
Finola highlights the role that Mental Health Ireland play in protecting the mental health of the farming community in Ireland. She discusses the importance of engaging the farming community and making them more aware of mental health issues that may arise in their line of work.
Furthermore, Finola talks about the additional challenges that the farming community have faced these past two years during Covid-19 and the effect that this can have on mental health. Finola urged farmers that are struggling to reach out for help and avail of the services that have been put in place by Mental Health Ireland.
